Repair.org operates with a hands-on leadership model. Board members and Board Advisors contribute their time and expertise not only to organizational direction, but also to the practical work required to advance the Right to Repair.

Repair.org’s Board of Directors helps guide the organization’s priorities, make organizational decisions, and carry out its work.

Because Repair.org is a small organization, directors take an active role. Their contributions may include policy work, coalition building, member engagement, organizational administration, communications, and other projects that support the Right to Repair.

Board Advisors bring additional experience, expertise, and relationships to Repair.org. They work alongside board members on initiatives related to advocacy, repair, public policy, sustainability, technology, education, community organizing, and industry engagement.

Advisors may lead or support specific projects based on their background and availability.

Board Advisors do not] vote on formal board decisions and do not carry the same governing responsibilities as directors.

Repair.org does not have a traditional staff structure. Board members and Board Advisors collectively handle much of the organization’s day-to-day work through different volunteer roles and projects.

Gay Gordon-Byrne serves as Executive Director and provides ongoing organizational leadership. She is currently Repair.org’s only paid leader.

With the exception of the Executive Director, Repair.org’s Board members and Board Advisors serve as unpaid volunteers.

They contribute their time, professional experience, and relationships because they believe that owners and independent repair providers should have the right to fix the products they depend on.

Prospective Board members and Board Advisors are considered based on the organization’s needs, their relevant experience, and their ability to contribute to Repair.org’s work. Board members and Board Advisors are elected and nominated by the Board of Directors.

Leadership appointments are made by the Board based on the organization’s current needs and the prospective leader’s ability to contribute.

Board members and Board Advisors are expected to disclose professional, financial, or organizational interests that could affect their work with Repair.org. When a potential conflict arises, the organization determines what disclosure, recusal, or other action is appropriate.
